A Rio Brazos Audubon Society Project
Funded by Audubon Texas
This grant was used to fund the purchase of materials and supplies for Rio Brazos Audubon’s (RBAS) community outreach and educational activities.
In 2014, RBAS resolved to expand their avian education activities by expanding their participation in community events and expanding their own educational events. They participated in six public events organized by municipalities, neighborhoods, universities, and museums, one pre-K educational event, and three Bird Tales programs at local retirement centers. RBAS initiated twenty-seven events including field trips, programs, Birding 101 and two Purple Martin Roost Parties. They were the Regional Winner for the Big Sit in the Great Texas Birding Classic they sponsored.
Twelve pairs of binoculars (6 purchased and 6 from Eagle Optics’ Matching Donation Program) were acquired to be used as loaners in RBA’s Birding 101 program, field trips, or any other activities.
The following materials were purchased to be used in educational presentations and outreach events.
- Cornell Lab of Ornithology educational materials (Discover Birds, Discovering Bird Diversity, BirdSleuth Bingo)
- Bird Wingspan Vinyl Poster
- RBA’s Information flyers
- Field Guides: Sibley’s, Dunne, Warbler Guide , Sibley’s folding guide
