Notes

  1. If you are unfamiliar with the National Audubon Climate Watch program, see the documentation (https://www.audubon.org/conservation/climate-watch) to understand what is required to participate and what is meant by a square
  2. The program is funded for both periods (winter and summer) of 2022. Depending on results, additional funding maybe sought for future years.
  3. Data collection can be done by one birder in isolation or a small group 2-3. Activities must comply with all current state and municipal COVID-19 regulations and guidelines.
  4. For participating chapters minimum funding is $40 for birding one square for one season. If birding over 60 squares both seasons the chapter will receive over $2450.
  5. Members can pick any target species, but each square counts only once, not more for multiple target species in the same square (all birds observed are reported).
  6. A birder may sign up for multiple squares.
  7. Each square can be typically be birded in 2 to 3 hours.
  8. When picking squares to bird, the square must be 50% or more contained within the state of Texas and be available under the Climate Watch Program so you may want to sign up before prime squares are taken.
  9. If you have participated in the past you may continue to use the squares you have signed up for and get credit.
  10. Squares can be outside of chapter regions but must be 50% or more within the state of Texas.
  11. All National Audubon reporting requirements and procedures must be followed.
