Purpose:
To Measure Texas’s Environmental Health (Critical for the Avian Community and us)
AFT is starting the Texas Bird Squares program to encourage state wide monitoring on bird populations during winter and breeding sessions. Data collected can then be used as indicator of the environmental health of Texas.
To divide Texas into squares for individuals to monitor and to provide consistent protocols for data collection AFT is leveraging the work of National Audubon Climate Watch program.
Through fund donations, Audubon Texas Chapters are encourage to coordinate, train, and monitor individual members as bird watchers. The funds are to further the chapter mission benefiting the avian community.
To insure the data is publicly available to be studied by ornithologists and other researchers, all data collected is required to be stored in Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s eBird database.
