After you have collected the survey data for all 12 points, the data must be entered in eBird and submitted to National Audubon. To receive AFT funding for your chapter you must enter the data into eBird so AFT will have access to it. Submitting directly to National Audubon can be done in addition, or you can choose to submit the eBird checklist ids to National Audubon.
No matter how you submit the data, please
- Select Stationary as the observation type
- Have a duration of 5 minutes
- Enter whether there were feeders or nest boxes present in the comments
There are two main ways to share your bird observations with eBird: submit them through the eBird.org website, or with the free eBird Mobile app.

Submitting a Checklist to ebird using the eBird app.
Step by step instructions for using the eBird mobile app to enter data are here . This app makes it easy to enter data real time in the field. However if you use the mobile app you must still go to the eBird website to find the checklist ids to enter on National Audubon’s portal or re-enter the data. The checklist ids can be found by logging into eBird and selecting My eBird -> Manage My Checklists->“date of checklist” . The id is at the top right and in the URL address.
Submitting the Checklist to National Audubon
Since AFT requires submission to eBird, AFT recommends that you submit the checklist ids to National Audubon instead of re-entering the data on their portal. To do this go to there portal on this web page. A complete video on entering the data is on this web page.
